Is eCom Still Worth It In 2024? (These eCom Downfalls Made Me Quit Ecommerce!)

Thing #1: No Control Over Products and Suppliers

Imagine this: You’ve built a thriving online store selling trendy home decor. Business is booming, and you’re raking in profits. Then, one day, you get a call from your main supplier. They’re out of stock on your best-selling items for the next three months. Panic sets in. You scramble to find a new supplier, but the quality just isn’t the same. Your customers notice, and suddenly, your five-star reviews turn into complaints.

Let’s consider another example: Let’s say you’re selling earphones from a reputable supplier. Everything’s going great until your supplier decides to increase their prices without any warning. Now, your profit margins are slashed, and you have to hike your prices, risking losing your loyal customers.

What’s scary is, this isn’t just a hypothetical scenario. It’s a reality for many ecommerce entrepreneurs. The lack of control over products and suppliers can leave your business vulnerable to sudden changes, and you’re often left scrambling to keep things running smoothly.

Now, think about the competition. You’ve got a fantastic product, but so do hundreds of other sellers. You’re constantly in a price war, trying to undercut your competitors just to stay relevant. And just when you think you’ve found a unique angle, a bigger player with more resources comes in and saturates the market. Your once-unique product is now just one of many, and your sales plummet.

Thing #2: Low-Profit Margins

Let’s talk about profit margins. When I first got into ecommerce, I was pumped about the potential. I found some awesome products, set up my online store, and managed to drive a good amount of traffic. But then reality hit hard when I started looking at the numbers. After paying for inventory, shipping, and marketing, my profit margins were razor-thin. I was putting in a ton of effort, but the returns just weren’t what I expected. I was raking in crumbs.

You think you’re doing well because you buy in bulk to get a discount. But then, you have to factor in the costs of warehousing, shipping, returns, and occasional damages.

And don’t even get me started on the constant pressure to offer discounts and deals to attract customers. It all eats into your profits, and suddenly, those healthy margins you dreamed of are nothing but a mirage.

Don’t just take it from me. A good friend of mine from college started a Shopify store selling posture correctors, and orders were coming in regularly. It seemed like things were going great at first.

But after a year, he did a deep dive into his finances and realized he was barely breaking even. High shipping costs, dealing with returns, and the relentless need for marketing meant his profit margins were way lower than he had anticipated. He was putting in all this effort, but the financial reward just wasn’t there.

Ecommerce can seem like a golden opportunity, but the harsh reality is that lack of control over products and suppliers, along with low-profit margins, can make it a tough journey. You’re at the mercy of suppliers who can change terms at any time, and the competitive market is brutal. After all the hard work, realizing that your profit margins are slim can be incredibly disheartening.

That’s why I’ve turned to the Digital Rental Method, which I’ve found to be more sustainable and profitable. If you want to learn more about this approach, click the link in my bio. It’s changed my life, and it could change yours too!

Conclusion

Alright, if you’re still all-in on the ecommerce route, here are three great options to consider:

Option #1: John Crestani’s Course

If you’re okay with paying a bit more for top-tier info, go with John Crestani. His course is pricier, but you’re getting well-organized content and hopefully some solid coaching to help you succeed.

Option #2: Franklin Hatchett’s Course

If you want to dip your toes in the ecommerce waters without fully committing, Franklin Hatchett’s course is a great choice. It’s more affordable and provides a good foundation to get you started.

Don’t get me wrong; ecommerce can definitely work. I’ve personally made money with it, and I have friends with businesses bringing in over $200K a month.

There’s a lot of free information out there, but what you’re really paying for with these courses is the structured info and (hopefully) good coaching.

Option #3: Digital Rental Method

Looking to hit $10K a month as quickly as possible? I recommend checking out the Digital Rental Method business model. This is the strategy that’s helping me make over $20,000 a month. It’s not completely passive, but it’s pretty close, and you’re actually helping local businesses grow.

Don’t get me wrong; ecommerce can definitely work. I’ve personally made money with it, and I have friends with businesses bringing in over $200K a month. There’s a lot of free information out there, but what you’re really paying for with these courses is the structured info and (hopefully) good coaching.

The Digital Rental Method involves renting out websites to local businesses that need help growing. Think of it like ecommerce but without some of the headaches.

You might need to talk to real people to hit that $10K a month, but hey, it’s worth it. Plus, you can’t hide behind a screen forever!

Why Digital Rental Method Is My #1 Top Pick!

Whats My 1 Top Pick Business Model

When it comes to making money online, there are countless methods to choose from. After exploring several options, I’ve found that Digital Real Estate is the standout winner. Here’s why.

Digital Real Estate involves creating niche websites that target local services in specific cities. Unlike affiliate marketing, where you compete for national keywords, this method focuses on dominating smaller, local markets. For example, instead of trying to rank for “protein supplements” on a national level, I focus on “plumbing services in Dallas.”

Think about a city like Dallas, with its sprawling population and numerous neighborhoods. There are many plumbing companies serving this area, but not all of them are savvy with online marketing. By creating a website targeting “plumbing services in Dallas,” I can easily rank higher and attract local traffic, making my ads more profitable.

In local markets, you’re not competing with every other affiliate marketer out there. Instead, your competition is often local businesses that might not have a strong online presence. For instance, a small plumbing company in Dallas might never have run an online ad. This makes it easier to win and send quality leads to your clients. My mentor calls this “knocking out 3rd graders,” because the competition is much less intense compared to the national level.

With the Digital Rental Method, you can create $500 – $2,500 per month semi-passively in just a few months. Every new “rental property” (i.e., niche website) you create can double your income. Some people even see results in as little as a week!

Take my site targeting “plumbing services in Dallas.” It ranks at #1, meaning it gets the most clicks. This site makes me $1,500 a month, and I barely touch it after setting it up! Sure, you might need to check in occasionally, but it’s mostly hands-off. This kind of “semi-passive” income lets you live life on your terms. Want to grow your business? Build more sites. Want to relax? Enjoy a vacation in Hawaii!

Here’s a snapshot of my call tracker for the plumbing site. It shows 56 potential job leads in a month. Even if the contractor closes just 10% of these leads, that’s still an extra $12,000 a month for them. Think they’re happy to pay me $1,500 for that? Absolutely.

The process is simple: pick a niche, get a proven ad campaign, and go city by city until you’ve got all the clients you want. This business scales beautifully and supports local economies. You’re not just making money; you’re helping local businesses thrive.

Why Digital Rental Method Wins:

  • Lower Barrier to Entry: Startup costs are lower than Amazon FBA and dropshipping.
  • Higher Profit Margins: Enjoy 75%+ margins with passive income.
  • Less Competition: Compete with local businesses, not global marketers.
  • More Control: Choose your niche, clients, and pricing. Replace bad clients easily.
  • Simpler Customer Management: Clients handle the leads; you just ensure they get them.
  • Cheaper Traffic: Organic traffic is cheaper and more passive than paid ads.

If you’re ready to take control of your financial future, click the link in my bio to learn why the Digital Rental Method program rocks!

I look forward to seeing you in there. It changed my life, and it can change yours too!

Founder of The Inbetween

“My journey began like many others – the all too familiar corporate treadmill, where success seemed defined by long hours in a skyline office. I did well in school, climbed the corporate ladder, but fulfillment felt elusive.

Eventually, that feeling led me to the world of ecom, where I ran dropshipping, print on demand & FBA hustles that brought some successes – but they also brought many challenges.

It wasn’t until I found the Digital Rental Method that I really found my groove – which still happens to be my #1 recommendation for making money online!”
