The curriculum is good but loses a few marks because some people say the information is a bit generic. The live mentoring and coaching calls certainly push the score up, as does access to the private Facebook group.

The Strengths

  • Steve's story of success is inspiring, and you might want to do the same.
  • There's a lot of information here on all types of ecommerce, so you'll have a lot of possible business models to pursue.
  • Steve's blog and podcast have lots of good information, so you can tell he knows what he's talking about.

The Weaknesses

  • Some people sat you can find most of this information in other places for free, which might stop you paying for the course.
  • You might find there's too much information to give you the focus you need, leaving you a little overwhelmed.
  • Ecommerce is notoriously difficult these days, and you might not even want to start on your journey with this business model.

TLDR: Is My Wife Quit Her Job Really Going To Give You A Profitable Online Business?

Is My Wife Quit Her Job Really Going To Give You A Profitable Online Business

Welcome to the mini-version section of my review. Here, I’ll give you a general overview of what’s going on here, without taking up too much of your precious time.

So what are we dealing with?

Well, Steve Chou is an expert in all things ecommerce. And I really do mean all things… most gurus will hone in on a specific e-commerce business model and focus all their attention on that.

But not Steve. Whether you plan to run a dropshipping store on Shopify or become a seller on Amazon, he can help––and he’s got a bunch of different courses to do the trick.

Now, I don’t think Steve is a jack of all trades and master of none. He’s got a real pedigree in this field, and his online business portfolio is pretty impressive. You’ll learn valuable information from him on how to source products, grow your online shop, and make your first moves into the ecom world.

He also comes across as a super nice guy, a great coach, and a supportive husband. He’s like your favorite teacher back in high school, the one who actually made learning seem fun. Only, Steve’s teaching you how to make money online, rather than calculus.

Still, nothing in this world is perfect.

Some online reviews are a little rough (and probably not completely fair), but the general consensus is that you can find most of Steve’s stuff for free online. So why spend money on something you can just research yourself?

With Steve Chou, you’re getting all of this stuff together, in a set of well-presented, expertly-crafted courses. And you’re getting coached by a guy who’s done this for real… who knows how it all works.

Still, when your buddy shows you a YouTube video, covering information you just paid good money for… it’s going to sting a little.

Outside of all these concerns about the course, the business model itself worries me.

I got on board the ecommerce train like many others did, starting online businesses and making sales through dropshipping, FBA, and any channel I could find.

But these sales weren’t enough. I didn’t achieve financial freedom, and I ended up torpedoing all my spare time by working on my business efforts around the clock.

And it’s not just me who struggled with this. A bunch of my friends who set out on their own ecommerce journeys around the same time had the same experience. A quick look around Reddit, Quora, and other platforms shows just how common this is… most people fail in ecommerce. Those are the facts.

dropshipping reviews

It’s just too saturated. The profit margins are too slim, and getting slimmer. And the fees are way too high. Steve Chou’s course is fine… I’d go as far as to say some of the modules are even great! But I don’t think it’s going to be enough to swing the ecommerce balance in your favor.

Eventually, I started looking for an alternative… something much better. And I found one.

That alternative was local lead generation and the Digital Rental Method.

This basically means setting up your simple but effective website, directly related to a niche in your area… something like driveway repair in Amery, Wisconsin, or electrical engineer services in Hoover, Alabama.

You use this site to generate amazing leads in your niche, and you rent it out to a local business. The local business gets the customers they need to thrive, and you get up to $3k per month in digital rental income, across as many websites as you like.

The Digital Rental Method is way more focused than Steve Chou’s courses. Both options are cool, but Digital Rental Method gives you a well-honed and logical progression through to building, launching and scaling your first digital rental property.

The business model is also much better than ecommerce. It’s basically immune to saturation because you’re in control of your niche. It’s also based on genuine value – you’re not trying to shift products your customers don’t want… you’re giving your partners the leads they absolutely need.

And perhaps the best thing about all of this is the freedom. Your digital rental properties are super easy to run, taking just a few minutes of your time each day. You’re not frantically playing catchup in the last chance saloon of the ecom industry… you’re living life your way.

Hit the link to find out more… and get started with the Digital Rental Method today.

AreaScoreDescription
Time Investment2.0 out of 5 starsI do like the effort that Steve has put into this one, but there is rather a lot to get through here. Even after you’ve completed the materials, you’ll still be working hard to catch up in the market.
Level of Control2.1 out of 5 starsSteve does quite a good job of trying to give you some control here, but this model is always going to be difficult. Ecommerce businesses are always built on shaky foundations.
Ease of Implementation2.5 out of 5 starsI’d say Steve has done quite well here, and his methods are quite easy to follow. The problem is… it might still be difficult to make any money due to the nature of the model.
Profit Potential2.1 out of 5 starsUnfortunately, we’re still learning ecommerce here. So Steve’s methods may be great, and his coaching is very good, but you’re still struggling for revenue and profit.

Who Can Benefit From Steve Chou's Course, And Who Won't

Steve Chou suggests this course can work for basically anyone, but is this really the case? Let’s take a look…

  • You’re really worried about the current state of ecommerce, and all those scare stories in the business model.

My Wife Quit Her Job: The 1,000 FT View

My Wife Quit Her Job: The 1,000 FT View

We need to go deep with this one because there’s a lot to cover here. Let’s dive into Steve Chou’s course and find out exactly what’s going on:

What’s The My Wife Quit Her Job Business Model?

Broadly, the My Wife Quit Her Job business model is ecommerce. So, just selling things online. But we need to drill into this a bit more to give you a better idea of what you can expect with this.

Ecommerce can work in a few ways:

  1. Sell products online via wholesale.
  2. Sell products from another supplier, who ships the items directly to your customers – the classic dropshipping model.
  3. Sell products you’ve made yourself – sometimes called passion products.
  4. Sell products you’ve bought at retail prices – otherwise known as retail arbitrage.

Or you can sell things through an existing ecom platform like Amazon, which means you don’t have to worry about web hosting. This might include business models like…

  1. Fulfillment by merchant – including products you’ve sourced, manufactured by partners, or produced yourself.
  2. Letting Amazon handle the distribution and warehousing, for a fee – otherwise known as Fulfillment By Amazon, or FBA.
  3. Selling ebooks through Kindle Direct Publishing or audiobooks via Audible.
  4. Private-label.

Steve loves basically all forms of ecommerce, so he’s got a lot of info he wants to share with you about all this.

Just Who Is Steve Chou?––The Guy Behind My Wife Quit Her Job

Steve Chou

Introducing Steve Chou, the brains behind the My Wife Quit Her Job program. He got off to a pretty good start in his professional life. Graduating with bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the prestigious Stanford University with an electrical engineering degree.

But it was business that really caught Steve’s eye. Even while he was studying for his degrees, he was learning how to become an entrepreneur and run his own business.

It was back in 2007 that Steven and his wife Jennifer—herself an Economics graduate from UC Davis—realized they had a problem: complacency. They were doing okay, but they didn’t have the fulfillment or freedom they wanted out of life. So then Steve’s wife quit her job to pursue online avenues, and the rest is history.

These days, Steve teaches all things ecommerce, while also hosting the My Wife Quit Her Job podcast and producing his profitable blog.

How Much Does My Wife Quit Her Job Cost?

The Create A Profitable Online Store Cost

  • A single, one-off payment of $2199 – A saving of almost 200 bucks, giving you the same lifetime access.
  • Monthly payments of $299 – No lifetime access here. You’ll need to keep making payments for as long as you want to use the course materials, and you can cancel anytime.
The Create A Profitable Audience cost

  • Six monthly payments of $225 – Totalling $1350 altogether for lifetime access.

What’s The My Wife Quit Her Job Refund Policy?

What's The My Wife Quit Her Job Refund Policy

This nice big rosette is displayed proudly on Steve’s site, telling you that everything is offered on a “Money Back 100% Guaranteed” basis.

So how does this work?

The rules seem to be the same for all the courses Steve is currently offering, but with one key difference. Here’s what I mean:

  • You can get a full refund on all the course costs – except for ongoing subscriptions, which you can cancel any time but won’t be refunded.
  • You’ve got 30 days from buying the course to submit your refund request. After that, there’s no refunds.
  • You get to peep the course to see if it’s right for you, but you won’t get a refund if you’ve downloaded all the materials. Steve says this is to prevent people “stealing” the course and getting their money back.
  • If you’re on a monthly plan, your refund request still needs to be received within 30 days of your initial purchase. If you miss this date, you’ll still need to cover the rest of your installments.

Is There A My Wife Quit Her Job Scam?

You sign up for an online course because you want to do something life-changing: run your own business and achieve success after success. This is the dream anyway, and at the very least, you don’t want to get ripped off!

So, with this in mind, is there a My Wife Quit Her Job scam to worry about? Nothing about this feels like a scam to me. Steve comes across as a good honest guy. His reviews (or just review) sound great, and his story seems pretty legit. His course materials are fairly comprehensive, and there’s a lot to learn here.

Now, there are always a few dissenting voices out there. One Reddit user gave their own profitable online store review and said they didn’t like the whole vibe they got from his site, although they didn’t get into detail. They were also quite complimentary about him in other ways, so I’m not really sure what to make of this one.

A negative Reddit comment

Other Redditors have said that Steve’s teachings are pretty basic, with some describing them as little more than “business class 101.”

A negative Reddit comment

I’ve seen this complaint mirrored elsewhere. Lots of people have said you can find basically everything on these courses for free in places like YouTube and elsewhere. They recommend you save money and just do your research, rather than buying the course itself.

But the thing is, he’s still bringing it all together for you, and he’s teaching it to you. Why send your kids to school when you’ve got the History Channel at home? Because a logical structure and strong teaching methods are actually super important.

So no, there’s no scam going on here. You might have periods during the course where you’re zoning out because you’ve heard this bit before, but you probably will still get some good insight you hadn’t spotted before. It’s up to you to decide if that’s worth the cost.

My Personal Opinion On My Wife Quit Her Job

My Personal Opinion On My Wife Quit Her Job

I’m quite impressed with what Steve has achieved, both on his personal journey and with this course. It’s really hard to make ecommerce work, but Steve has managed it.

Still, Ecommerce is a lot like trying to renovate an old home.

The living room carpet doesn’t look the best, so you pull it up, and it’s way worse underneath. The floorboards are cracked and uneven. There are loose nails sticking out where the builders cut a few corners and even patches of mold in a few places. It’s a mess.

But you don’t just lay down a new carpet and forget about it. Those boards are going to get worse. Someone is going to snag themselves on a nail, and all that mold is going to cause thousands of dollars worth of damage further down the line.

This is a bit like what we’re dealing with here. A shiny, well-made course like this one masks a whole world of horrors underneath—horrors related to the business model as a whole:

  • Only 10% of ecommerce businesses actually survive.
  • Most Amazon FBA sellers make less than the average American wage, and around 17% only make 500 bucks a month.
  • Thousands of new entrepreneurs are entering the ecommerce model every quarter, making a saturated and struggling model significantly worse with each passing year.

Unfortunately, you’ve got to pull those boards out and start anew. In most cases, this means a different approach, a different strategy, and a different business model altogether.

I’ve also reviewed two other eCommerce courses you might find interesting.

My Alison J Prince review explores her 0-100K System, which includes a supportive community but highlights the competitive nature of the eCommerce market.

In my Steady Ecom review, I cover its comprehensive training on e-commerce and dropshipping, with a focus on mentorship and community support.

What’s The Alternative Here?

I know all this about the ecommerce business because I’ve lived it. I made selling products online my number-one priority until I just couldn’t take it anymore.

So I turned to local lead generation and the Digital Rental Method…

The Digital Rental Method is far superior to ecommerce. Ecommerce relies on trying to convince your customers they want something, and then selling it to them. Local lead generation is about giving local business owners the leads they need to thrive and grow.

The Digital Rental Method is also far better than Steve’s courses. Rather than hitting you with a load of different pieces of information, you’re getting a focused, logical process that will see you launching your own business in double-quick time.

And that business is going to be well more profitable too. We’re talking a regular income of up to $3k for each partner, over as many partners as you want to work with. Ecommerce just can’t compete with this.

My Wife Quit Her Job Review – The Conclusion

I know there’s been a lot to take in in this My Wife Quit Her Job review, and I appreciate you sticking it out with me. By now, you’re pretty well acquainted with what Steve and his courses have got going on.

And it’s mostly good. Steve seems like a really nice guy, and his story might spark some hope for anyone looking to achieve the same sort of success.

I just think the ecommerce market has changed a lot since Steve started out in 2007. It’s much harder to gain any traction these days, and even the best course in the world might not be enough to help you hit those heights.

Steve’s course, as good as it is, is not this ‘best course in the world’. You will find some of his stuff elsewhere, and I am a bit worried about the whole “business 101” and “rehashed Youtube content” accusations.

So, a really good effort from Steve, but I’d recommend something a bit different.

What Is My Top Recommendation For Making Money Online In 2024?

Whats My 1 Top Pick Business Model

I’ve tried my hand at plenty of different online business models. From selling resistance bands on Amazon FBA to dropshipping decorative pillows on Shopify – I’ve done it all.

I had some successes, and a lot of failures. But all that changed when I found the Digital Rental Method.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been around the online business model block, or this is your first rodeo, Digital Rental Method can work for you.

Here’s why…

  • #1. It’s Flexible: It doesn’t matter if you’ve only got an hour a day to spare, you can make a real difference with your digital rental business. It’ll take a little while to get off the ground, but once you do… you’ll be flying.

I’m talking living the dream… taking back control of your life, while collecting multiple checks worth $500 to $2,000. Pretty sweet!

This just isn’t going to be possible with ecommerce. You’re already so far behind, you’ll be working around the clock to catchup.

  • #2: You Own Everything: Even with Steve Chou on your side, you don’t actually own anything with any type of ecommerce.

Amazon can shut you down. Your suppliers can change their rates. Your ad account might got blocked… anything can happen, and the foundations are shaky.

Digital Rental Method is very, very different. You own all the assets, which means you are in the driver’s seat.

  • #3. Easy To Scale: One of my favorite things about the Digital Rental Method is the scaling. You can easily set up a second, third, fourth digital rental property, and start generating more income in just a couple of day.

With ecommerce, you’d have to double your sales to double your profit, or double your prices! Trust me… neither of these strategies is going to work.

  • #4: Huge Profits: In ecommerce, competition is off the charts. You’re constantly battling it out with your rivals, chasing ever-slimmer profits. This was probably the biggest factor that drove me away from the business model.

Digital Rental Method avoids this issue, giving you almost 100% profit margins with minimal startup costs. You could find yourself knocking out up to 2k a month in semi-passive income, over as many digital rental properties as you want!

  • #5: You’re Making A Real Difference: The biggest problem I have with ecommerce is that you’re selling the products that will net you the biggest return, not the ones that most help people.

This is definitely my favorite thing about Digital Rental Method – you’re helping real people. Business owners need your leads… not just to grow their businesses, but to survive at all!

You put food on the table for your partners, you help your local business community thrive, and you get paid… it’s a wonderful way to support your local area.

“My journey began like many others – the all too familiar corporate treadmill, where success seemed defined by long hours in a skyline office. I did well in school, climbed the corporate ladder, but fulfillment felt elusive.

Eventually, that feeling led me to the world of ecom, where I ran dropshipping, print on demand & FBA hustles that brought some successes – but they also brought many challenges.

It wasn’t until I found the Digital Rental Method that I really found my groove – which still happens to be my #1 recommendation for making money online!”
